The company has a rich and colourful history, dating back to the early 1800s.
It was born out of a combination of two local breweries –Clare Street and Minden Place. Both located in the heart of the Island’s capital, St Helier, the two breweries began combining their operations in 1819.
In 1964 the business was bought by the Hon Edward Greenall and in 1978 wine and spirits merchants J F Vautier Limited was acquired, and the company became known as Randalls Vautier.
The business has remained in the Greenall family ever since and during this time major development projects have been undertaken with modern warehousing to accommodate the increasing business and the acquisition of the specialist wine company Merchant Vintners.
In 1992 the company stopped its brewing operation, in order to concentrate on modernising its public houses to meet increased customer demands and provide greater choice of product and food, in addition the Clare Street Brewery site was redeveloped into the company’s head office.
Today Randalls employs over 450 people, operates over some of the finest pubs (Managed and Free Houses) and restaurants across the island, as well as the retail and distribution business.
From a turnover of £38 million, the business generates £5 million EBITDA
There is a Randalls Loyalty App which enhances customer engagement by allowing users to explore venues, view menus, make reservations, and participate in a digital loyalty program.
Managing Director Role Overview
PSD has been appointed to run the search for an experienced Managing Director who will be responsible for the strategic direction, leadership and overall management of the group. They will ensure operational excellence, financial performance, brand integrity and sustainable growth across all locations.
Key responsibilities will be:
Strategic Leadership
Develop and implement Randalls.’ long term vision, mission and strategy
Lead business planning and performance improvement initiatives
Identify opportunities for expansion.
Operational Oversight
Oversee the performance of all pubs and their teams
Ensure high standards of customer service, compliance and food & beverage quality
Champion innovation and improvements in customer experience
Financial Management
Budgets and financial planning
People Leadership
Create a high-performance culture, prioritising training and development
Foster strong internal communication and employee engagement
Compliance and Governance
Ensure Randalls are adhering to all legal and regulatory requirements
Report regularly to the board on performance and risk management
Brand & Marketing
Oversee all group branding, marketing and PR strategies
Ensure consistency of brand voice and customer experience
Monitor market trends and competitor activity
Requirements for Success:
Proven experience as a multi-site Managing Director or equivalent in the hospitality sector, ideally with a pub company background
Industry savvy & obsessive about great hospitality
Strong communication and people skills, with the ability to positively influence others, & to create a culture focused on delivering the highest levels of customer scores & online reputation
Visibility in the business, & ability to use this to really keep a finger on the pulse anticipating opportunities & challenges alike
Strong financial and commercial acumen with proven track record of delivering across key business metrics
Will need to be personable, engaging, sociable and have a great sense of humor. This business is hospitality after all!
